Last of the summer grids

Hello Year 5/6,

It’s your last week before the summer holidays begin so this is the last homework grid that will be put on here. Many of you have been making a fantastic effort to complete the activities that have been set and I have loved seeing your work. Keep it up for this last week and then you can relax over the summer holidays. For those of you who haven’t done much work over Lockdown, it will still be available online over the holidays on Google Classroom and My Maths, so if you have some spare time try to get some done before we come back to school.

It has been lovely to spend time with some of you over the last few weeks in school and seeing your smiles when you are with your friends has brightened my day. It will be exciting to welcome the rest of Year 5 back to school in September.

On a sad note, Year 6 will be leaving us without a leavers’ assembly or prom this year. Don’t forget to send me a memory about something that happened in primary school and we’ll try to share these at the end of term.

I wish you all the best in your new schools, Year 6, and I know you’ll settle in quickly and work hard. Come back to see us when you can to let us know how you’re getting on.

Year 5/6, you have been a wonderful class to work with this year and I know you will all do your best and make good progress in Years 6 and 7. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather over the summer holidays and enjoy time with your families.

Take care,

Love from

Mrs Wilkshire x

Week 5 Literacy/Topic hometasks - PLEASE SEE YOUR MATHS TEACHERS CLASS PAGE TO ACCESS YOUR MATHS

A Message for Y5/6
Hello Y5/6,
I hope you’re all well and keeping busy.
Lots of you have been doing your work online and it’s been great to see it – well done.  Some of you have told me that you’ve been doing the work in your book so I’m looking forward to seeing that when we’re back in school.  I’m so pleased with the effort that many of you are putting in to doing your work.  We know it’s difficult for you to do this at home but keep at it because it’s really important for you to practise these skills.
There will be no work put online for you next week (25th May) because it’s half term.  Take the time to relax and hopefully go outside in the sunshine for some lovely walks with your family.
After half term, we will continue to post homework grids here on the school blog (remember to look on your maths teacher’s page for your maths homework grid).  This work will also be put on our class account each day on Google for Education on Hwb (lots of you are already using this).
Log on to Hwb.
Click Google for Education.
Click on our class account DW 2019 5/6.
To find your work, click on Classwork.
For most of the activities you can choose to do them either in your book or type them on j2e5 or in a document on our class account on Google for Education on Hwb.
If you do work on the computer, to hand it in on our class account follow Tayla’s instructions:
To hand work in as a document and not in the comments you need to click on 'Add or Create' on the right hand side of the assignment. You can create a new document here and then when it is finished you click 'Hand In' and the work gets submitted.
If you do this I will be able to see your work and respond to it.

If you want some extra things to do I upload the latest edition of First News each week on our class account on Hwb and there are activities to go with this.  You can also try out any lesson on My Maths, even if it hasn’t been set for you by your maths teacher.  Also, BBC Bitesize is posting daily lessons in different subjects for each year group:
Don’t forget about the ‘Daily 5’ at the top of the grid - reading, maths practice, keep fit, being creative and celebrating something you have done well.  There are some ideas for these below.
You have all been given your HWB and My Maths user names and passwords, but if you are having difficulty please e-mail me on         maesycoedprimary82@gmail.com
I miss you all very much and hope to see you soon.  In the meantime, do fun things, keep smiling and be kind to your family.

Eisteddfod

Today we celebrated our Eisteddfod. We sang the song 'Lawr ar Lan y Mor' and  recited the poem 'Siopa Gyda Dad' on the stage. We created artwork in the style of Nicholas Evans, wrote our own poem with the title 'The Miners Wife', held a handwriting competition on the national anthem 'Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau' and wrote stories about coal mining.

Many thanks to university sports park trefforest for a great afternoon. Year 6 really enjoyed themselves.

Big Pit

We had a lovely if cold day at Big Pit as part of our topic on coal. We enjoyed walking around the museum and learning all about the miners and their families when they worked together in the mine.
